00:01:01.709 --> 00:01:08.349
This is an Undiscovered Legacy Production and prod member of Pod Nation Media Network.

00:01:09.229 --> 00:01:15.149
If your desire is larger than the challenge that's in front of you, you're gonna push past and do it, right?

00:01:15.310 --> 00:01:23.229
But if the challenge is greater than the desire you have in your heart, then you're just probably gonna quit and try something different if the challenge arises.

00:01:23.549 --> 00:01:27.789
So yeah, it's like if all I was doing it was for the money, that would have been great until it got hard.

00:01:27.870 --> 00:01:35.949
And then I wouldn't have known what to do because I wouldn't have had the desire to push through the challenges that would have been required of me if the dealership ever got hard.

00:01:36.109 --> 00:01:40.109
So yeah, I think to get yourself across, you gotta find what's gonna light that fire for you.

00:01:40.750 --> 00:01:43.870
Are you ready to unlock your entrepreneur potential?

00:01:44.030 --> 00:01:47.629
Are you ready to break free from all the barriers holding you back?

00:01:47.789 --> 00:01:49.629
Then you've come to the right place.

00:01:50.109 --> 00:01:56.109
Welcome to the Undiscovered Entrepreneur, your first step in getting across the start line.

00:01:59.629 --> 00:02:06.109
Let's get across that start line together, right here, right now, on the Undiscovered Entrepreneur.

00:02:06.750 --> 00:02:12.030
So you should believeers, and we are here again with another amazing entrepreneur.

00:02:12.110 --> 00:02:12.909
We're here with Jason.

00:02:12.990 --> 00:02:14.269
Hey Jason, how you doing?

00:02:14.509 --> 00:02:15.310
I'm doing great.

00:02:15.389 --> 00:02:16.349
I'm excited today.

00:02:16.590 --> 00:02:17.389
All right, me too.

00:02:17.469 --> 00:02:24.990
I'm so excited to have this conversation with you, and thank you so much for taking the time out of your day to be on the Undiscovered Entrepreneur Get Across the Start Line.

00:02:25.389 --> 00:02:27.149
Yeah, yeah, looking forward to being here.

00:02:27.389 --> 00:02:27.709
All right.

00:02:27.870 --> 00:02:32.030
So before we start anything, I can have one uh kind of semi serious question to ask you.

00:02:32.110 --> 00:02:32.909
Okay, you ready?

00:02:33.389 --> 00:02:33.709
Yeah.

00:02:33.870 --> 00:02:35.069
All right, here we go.

00:02:36.509 --> 00:02:37.870
Are you a school believer?

00:02:38.430 --> 00:02:39.550
Absolutely.

00:02:40.110 --> 00:02:41.789
All right, Jason's a school believer.

00:02:41.870 --> 00:02:43.550
Woohoo! All right, thank you, Jason.

00:02:43.629 --> 00:02:44.670
I appreciate you.

00:02:45.469 --> 00:02:55.949
All right, so what I like to do here at the very beginning is just getting at it, get kind of an idea of who you are, what your entrepreneur adventure is, and how you got across the start line in your entrepreneur adventure.

00:02:56.269 --> 00:02:56.670
Yeah.

00:02:56.909 --> 00:02:59.629
So uh I grew up working for my family.

00:02:59.709 --> 00:03:02.189
So my dad is a car dealer in Akron, Ohio.

00:03:02.269 --> 00:03:07.229
If you ever come here, you'll see my last name, Vandeveer all over Akron, Vandevere, Kia, Cadillac, Chevy.

00:03:07.389 --> 00:03:08.909
They got five dealerships.

00:03:09.150 --> 00:03:15.310
So I was in line to be the fourth generation to own and manage these portfolio of car dealerships.

00:03:15.389 --> 00:03:17.389
Uh, so I grew up working in all the different departments.

00:03:17.549 --> 00:03:22.990
My dad wanted me to work in every department for a year, maybe even several years, so I could learn the whole business.

00:03:23.229 --> 00:03:27.549
And somewhere in there, I realized it wasn't a passion of mine.

00:03:27.629 --> 00:03:30.270
Uh, it's just not what I wanted to do with my life.

00:03:30.509 --> 00:03:38.829
And even though everyone told me it was a crazy idea to leave the family business uh to turn down that opportunity, I left with basically nothing.

00:03:38.990 --> 00:03:40.430
And I pursued a dream of mine.

00:03:40.590 --> 00:03:43.549
So random dream, but I wanted to design a planner.

00:03:43.629 --> 00:03:44.590
So I left my job.

00:03:44.669 --> 00:03:49.870
I spent months interviewing successful individuals, finding out how they set their goals, track their goals.

00:03:49.949 --> 00:03:52.829
I put together this design for the goal crazy planner.

00:03:53.310 --> 00:04:01.310
And for a few years, all I was doing was selling planners online, and then that turned into uh workshops and courses, a coaching program.

00:04:01.469 --> 00:04:04.109
I have a podcast of my own, the goal crazy podcast.

00:04:04.349 --> 00:04:06.750
Most recently, I just wrote a book, Dream Driven.

00:04:06.909 --> 00:04:07.310
Nice.

00:04:07.469 --> 00:04:10.829
Uh, and then somewhere on the side, I started investing in real estate.

00:04:10.909 --> 00:04:15.949
So I've got up to 34 apartments, and I would say that's like my highlight reel.

00:04:16.350 --> 00:04:20.990
Aside from that, I'm like most entrepreneurs, I'm just figuring it out as I'm going.

00:04:21.149 --> 00:04:25.310
And many of the things along the way that I did also did not work out.

00:04:25.470 --> 00:04:27.069
But uh, that's a little bit about me.

00:04:27.310 --> 00:04:27.870
That's awesome.

00:04:28.029 --> 00:04:33.789
Yeah, we're all kind of on that train of trying to figure out as we go along, kind of building the airplane on the way up, you know, off the cliff.

00:04:33.949 --> 00:04:35.389
So yeah, yep.

00:04:35.629 --> 00:04:40.590
But it's gotta be it had to have been difficult because you went from a fourth generation car dealer.

00:04:40.750 --> 00:04:50.669
I I used to be a car salesman, I think we I mentioned that earlier, so I kind of feel where you're coming from, and just kind of branched up from that must have been really difficult for you because it's kind of like, why am I doing this?

00:04:50.829 --> 00:04:53.310
Even though you're following a passion, I kind of understand that.

00:04:53.470 --> 00:04:56.029
It's gotta be kind of rough on the back of your mind.

00:04:57.069 --> 00:05:05.710
It was, it was, but when I was working at the dealership, if you ever go to one of the dealerships, you'll know if my dad is there because you'll hear him.

00:05:05.870 --> 00:05:12.350
He's loud, he's very excited, and you'll just be able to see that he has so much passion for the car business.

00:05:12.509 --> 00:05:12.990
He loves it.

00:05:13.149 --> 00:05:16.110
It's it's an extension of himself, this business that he's built.

00:05:16.350 --> 00:05:19.230
In growing up working there, it's like I knew I wanted that.

00:05:19.389 --> 00:05:23.629
Like I wanted a fire inside of me for my career, for what I was doing.

00:05:23.870 --> 00:05:29.950
And uh, when I worked there, I realized I wasn't gonna find it there at the dealership.

00:05:30.189 --> 00:05:31.549
And now, so I am lucky.

00:05:31.629 --> 00:05:33.470
My great-grandpa started it, my grandpa had it.

00:05:33.549 --> 00:05:38.669
Now my dad and my uncle co-own it, and my uncle has kids who are going into the business.

00:05:38.830 --> 00:05:40.669
So the business should not die.

00:05:41.149 --> 00:05:45.309
But uh I was not the path that I chose for myself.

00:05:45.470 --> 00:05:46.590
But it was a hard decision.

00:05:46.669 --> 00:05:48.830
I was afraid to tell them that I wanted to leave.

00:05:49.070 --> 00:05:53.389
Yeah, we really kind of got like, hey dad, uh I hate to tell you this, but yeah.

00:05:54.350 --> 00:06:08.029
But it's nice that you got over that hump that you got out of that comfort zone and actually be able to told them because you you probably would have miserable the rest of the time that you were there because it's not in your zone of genius or not the, you know, what you said, the fire inside of you.

00:06:08.269 --> 00:06:10.830
And that would have been really hard to take.

00:06:12.029 --> 00:06:27.470
Yeah, I would have been doing it just for the money, which is I think where most people are with their career is like they're doing it not because it gives them the freedom that they want, that it's not because they enjoy it or get the vacation time, or they probably maybe not even the income that they want, but they're just doing it for a paycheck.

00:06:27.629 --> 00:06:37.870
And it would have been a very nice paycheck that I would have been earning potentially if I did a good job running the dealerships, but uh I would have been just doing it for the money, and I I didn't want to do that.

00:06:38.269 --> 00:06:41.549
We gotta avoid that we're doing it just for the money.

00:06:41.629 --> 00:06:49.870
It's it's really tough because that money seems good, but it doesn't there's a big difference between abundance and money and abundance and passion.

00:06:50.990 --> 00:06:58.669
And and having that abundance and passion is really what's gonna drive you throughout throughout the rest of your life, more than likely.

00:06:58.990 --> 00:07:04.750
But just going for just the money, it's like it's very, very, very temporary to have that.

00:07:05.549 --> 00:07:06.990
Yeah, no, I I agree.

00:07:07.149 --> 00:07:07.549
Yeah.

00:07:08.429 --> 00:07:08.909
All right.

00:07:09.149 --> 00:07:14.990
So um what I'd like to do here is what do you think actually stops new entrepreneurs from getting across the start line?

00:07:15.149 --> 00:07:18.189
We have different types of problems and things that stop us from going.

00:07:18.429 --> 00:07:22.909
What do you think stops most entrepreneurs from getting across the start line in their entrepreneur adventures?

00:07:23.789 --> 00:07:27.470
Yeah, probably fear and they don't know where to start are probably the things there.

00:07:27.549 --> 00:07:31.470
And I know those are one of the one of them is one of your four hurdles there.

00:07:31.710 --> 00:07:33.230
That's what I think it comes down to you.

00:07:34.110 --> 00:07:34.830
Yeah, absolutely.

00:07:34.990 --> 00:07:35.950
Fear goes right here.

00:07:36.110 --> 00:07:38.269
First, false evidence appearing real.

00:07:38.830 --> 00:07:51.070
It's not nothing that's gonna, you know, it's not a saber-tooth tiger that's gonna bite us in the rear, and it's nothing that's really gonna hurt us, it's just something that it triggers a mechanism in our head, a very old mechanism in our head that tries to protect us.

00:07:51.230 --> 00:07:56.990
But sometimes it's actually, and I like making this point too, it's sometimes it points you in a direction.

00:07:57.149 --> 00:08:00.509
If you fear it, you need to go towards it instead of away from it.

00:08:00.750 --> 00:08:11.710
And that's I think what happened to you in in your uh in the car salesman and getting the dealership and tell yeah, I'm sure you're afraid as you said earlier, you're afraid to tell your dad, hey, I don't want to do this.

00:08:11.870 --> 00:08:16.029
But since you got over that fear, it wasn't something that wasn't gonna hurt you that bad.

00:08:16.350 --> 00:08:19.149
You actually came out really far ahead.

00:08:20.110 --> 00:08:20.750
Yeah.

00:08:21.470 --> 00:08:22.350
Yeah, absolutely.

00:08:22.509 --> 00:08:28.189
The fear, uh, I was afraid of him, but the I had a dream inside of me.

00:08:28.269 --> 00:08:34.350
And I think that's what really helped me get across the finish line is I figured out what I wanted to do with my life.

00:08:34.429 --> 00:08:37.070
And and it was I wanted to launch this planner business.

00:08:37.230 --> 00:08:39.470
And I think that's a really deep question.

00:08:39.549 --> 00:08:40.830
What do you want to do with your life?

00:08:41.070 --> 00:08:50.350
But I think once you can get clarity on that and you find this dream that's gonna light a fire inside of you, that's what's gonna give you the courage to go push through those challenges.

00:08:50.509 --> 00:08:53.629
Because you brought up earlier, right, we don't want to just be doing it for the money.

00:08:53.870 --> 00:09:00.990
And I think it's like if your desire is larger than the challenge that's in front of you, you're gonna push past and do it, right?

00:09:01.149 --> 00:09:09.070
But if the challenge is greater than the desire you have in your heart, then you're just probably gonna quit and try something different if the challenge arises.

00:09:09.389 --> 00:09:13.470
So, yeah, it's like if all I was doing it was for the money, that would have been great until it got hard.

00:09:13.549 --> 00:09:21.710
And then I wouldn't have known what to do because I wouldn't have had the desire to push through the challenges that would have been required of me if the dealership ever got hard.

00:09:21.870 --> 00:09:25.950
So yeah, I think to get yourself across, you gotta find what's gonna light that fire for you.

00:09:26.429 --> 00:09:26.909
Exactly.

00:09:27.149 --> 00:09:29.789
Do me a favor, what uh what inspired you to do this?

00:09:29.870 --> 00:09:34.350
I mean, you said you wanted to do the planner, I get that, but what actually inspired you to do the planner?

00:09:34.429 --> 00:09:36.110
I'm I'm really curious about that.

00:09:36.429 --> 00:09:36.829
Yeah.

00:09:37.069 --> 00:09:42.669
So when I was working in those different departments at the dealership, I I got very obsessed with planners.

00:09:42.750 --> 00:09:44.750
And lots of that was because of the nature of the role.

00:09:44.829 --> 00:09:52.269
I would show up, I'd go into a new department, I was only gonna be there for a few months or a little over a year, and I needed to figure out all right, what are the goals of this department?

00:09:52.350 --> 00:09:55.469
What are the habits I need to have every day so I can succeed?

00:09:55.629 --> 00:09:59.629
There was a maybe a pressure inside of me to I needed to perform well, right?

00:09:59.789 --> 00:10:01.469
My one, my name is on the building.

00:10:01.629 --> 00:10:04.509
I'm potentially gonna be the all these people's boss one day.

00:10:04.589 --> 00:10:08.350
Like I want them to earn their respect by how I perform here.

00:10:08.589 --> 00:10:14.589
So I was using all these planners because I just needed to keep myself on track to these goals.

00:10:14.909 --> 00:10:24.990
And I was ordering all these different planners, they all had the right promises and keywords when I was buying them, but I feel like when I would order them, they just wouldn't deliver on what I was looking for.

00:10:25.230 --> 00:10:33.389
And I was reading a lot of self-help books, I was attending lots of conferences, and I feel like that I was learning these principles that successful people were operating under.

00:10:33.549 --> 00:10:35.870
And I just wanted it all together in a planner.

00:10:36.029 --> 00:10:42.029
I wanted this planner where it's like, I know if I put my goals into this planner and follow the process, I'm gonna reach my goals.

00:10:42.189 --> 00:10:46.110
And I just wanted to find that template.

00:10:46.350 --> 00:10:50.029
And now I believe I've made it after a lot of hard work.

00:10:50.189 --> 00:10:54.669
But uh that's that's what initially put it on my mind in this desire.

00:10:54.829 --> 00:11:06.750
One, I wanted it for myself, and I also wanted it for other people because I at least was on a track at the dealership to I was on a very successful path that many people might not have the same opportunity.

00:11:06.829 --> 00:11:15.789
But I wanted to give them the confidence, like if they had the right method to accomplish their goals, they could still go have success, even if their family doesn't own a large dealership.

00:11:15.949 --> 00:11:21.149
And I would say that still was a desire of mine when I was leaving the dealership.

00:11:21.389 --> 00:11:27.149
I feel like growing up, my friends would kind of tease me about like Jason's got the golden ticket, right?

00:11:27.230 --> 00:11:34.990
Like, all he has to do is keep his same last name, smile his way through working for his family, and he'll go be successful.

00:11:35.230 --> 00:11:41.870
And that saddened me away because I truly believe it's like everyone has the same opportunity to be successful as I did.

00:11:42.110 --> 00:11:43.870
They would just, they're just gonna have to work for it.

00:11:43.949 --> 00:11:46.189
And I would still have to work at my family's dealership.

00:11:46.350 --> 00:11:48.429
It might have been a very straight path.

00:11:48.669 --> 00:12:04.029
But uh, I wanted to prove to other people look, you don't being successful, it doesn't just come from you having the right parents who own a big business, it comes from you having the courage to go out and do something, do something that's gonna serve others and accomplish your goals.

00:12:04.189 --> 00:12:08.269
So hopefully the planner would then give them the framework to make that happen.

00:12:08.589 --> 00:12:10.269
You hit some very good points there.

00:12:10.350 --> 00:12:14.909
And the one I'd really like to kind of reiterate on too is being able to help others.

00:12:15.069 --> 00:12:18.750
And I think being able to help others is its own reward, too.

00:12:18.990 --> 00:12:34.269
I mean, because I mean there's a difference between having a dollar and then having that warm fuzz of healing in your chest that you know is going to stay with you because you know you helped somebody achieve a goal, or you got a promise that was kept that made a big difference in their lives, and you had something to do with that.

00:12:35.069 --> 00:12:35.549
Oh, yeah.

00:12:35.709 --> 00:12:37.709
Yeah, it's it's a lot more rewarding.

00:12:37.870 --> 00:12:41.949
One of the main goals I track for myself is lives changed.

00:12:42.029 --> 00:12:53.069
And maybe those are like clients that sign me on, or maybe it's someone that it like I met at our church and they a piece of advice I gave them, they went and did something with it.

00:12:53.149 --> 00:12:56.990
Like if I helped them make a change in their life, I track it for myself.

00:12:57.069 --> 00:13:05.149
And it's just so rewarding because that's what that's what lights the fire inside of me more than just chasing the money.

00:13:05.469 --> 00:13:17.149
And there's a part of that too, that you're a world that you're also a part of that we changed lives too, and that's in podcasting and and teaching others that listen to us the what we've learned in changing their lives too.

00:13:17.230 --> 00:13:18.990
That's a little harder to track, but it does happen.

00:13:19.149 --> 00:13:19.949
Yeah, yeah, yeah.

00:13:20.029 --> 00:13:20.750
Oh, absolutely.

00:13:20.909 --> 00:13:26.990
And I'm sure you've gotten people though reach out when they hear an episode and they tell you, like, hey, I really needed that, or that was phenomenal.

00:13:27.069 --> 00:13:37.149
Or I implemented what that one guest said, and it's yeah, I would draw, I've got like a little barometer thing here in my office where I track lives change for the month, and I would color it in because it's just one more person.

00:13:37.230 --> 00:13:38.669
I'm gonna give myself credit for it.

00:13:38.909 --> 00:13:39.389
There you go.

00:13:39.469 --> 00:13:42.829
And and you fill that in, it makes you feel good when you're able to fill that in.

00:13:43.069 --> 00:13:43.549
Yeah.

00:13:43.789 --> 00:13:57.870
And I like the fact too that you you take the best of everything that you've learned from all these other places, whether it be webinars that you've gone to or conferences or even books that you've read and combine them into yourself to make one final product.

00:13:57.949 --> 00:13:59.629
And that's what I try to do too.

00:13:59.870 --> 00:14:04.669
But the end product's always going to be different for everybody because our experiences and our lives are different.

00:14:04.829 --> 00:14:13.069
But being able to get that one final product from all the learnings and teachings that you've had to one place is really what makes a difference.

00:14:13.469 --> 00:14:13.870
Yeah.

00:14:14.110 --> 00:14:14.429
Yeah.

00:14:14.669 --> 00:14:20.269
Cause when I quit my job, I spent months interviewing successful individuals.

00:14:20.429 --> 00:14:22.829
And having a family with connections did help with that.

00:14:22.990 --> 00:14:26.829
I was able to get in contact with a lot of business owners and ask them how they accomplished things.

00:14:26.990 --> 00:14:34.189
But probably what was really helpful then is after I made this design, one of them recommended I host focus groups.

00:14:34.269 --> 00:14:37.549
Uh he was like, you got to host a focus group, take people through this design.

00:14:37.709 --> 00:14:41.149
And I thought that was a silly idea to host a focus group.

00:14:41.309 --> 00:14:43.469
But out of respect to him, I did it.

00:14:43.789 --> 00:14:46.189
And that was so powerful for me.

00:14:46.350 --> 00:14:48.269
One, that meeting was scheduled to go an hour.

00:14:48.350 --> 00:14:53.469
I had six people go through this design, and the meeting ended up going over three hours long.

00:14:53.629 --> 00:14:55.709
We didn't even make it through the whole design.

00:14:55.870 --> 00:14:57.230
And really, it was painful.

00:14:57.309 --> 00:15:00.189
People were telling me all negative feedback, like this is confusing.

00:15:00.269 --> 00:15:01.549
I don't get what I'm supposed to do here.

00:15:01.629 --> 00:15:02.509
This is too much writing.

00:15:02.589 --> 00:15:03.629
This seems repetitive.

00:15:03.870 --> 00:15:06.750
And when I left that meeting, I felt crushed.

00:15:06.909 --> 00:15:07.709
What have I done?

00:15:07.789 --> 00:15:08.990
I've spent months now.

00:15:09.069 --> 00:15:10.589
I turned down a great opportunity.

00:15:10.750 --> 00:15:15.789
I've told the world I'm making this planner, and it's I feel embarrassed that I even showed it to other people.

00:15:15.949 --> 00:15:19.309
But then I had this clear list of things that I needed to fix.

00:15:19.469 --> 00:15:27.629
It was like, all right, I'd rather get all the this information up front, but when I can change it, rather than after I've launched the product and get bad reviews.

00:15:27.949 --> 00:15:35.709
And there was just like trying to figure out the right way to take so much beautiful, great information and strategies I learned from these people.

00:15:35.870 --> 00:15:44.750
But then how do I put it in an easy, straightforward process that's not too much, that's not too, that's not too little that somebody could actually get results from.

00:15:44.990 --> 00:15:52.909
And I ended up hosting seven of those focus groups because I just kept going until eventually the last two of them, it was like we went through it.

00:15:52.990 --> 00:15:58.269
Maybe they noticed a few typos, small things, but they would try it out, it would work, and they're getting results.

00:15:58.350 --> 00:16:02.990
And finally I was like, all right, it's ready to get this actually started.

00:16:05.469 --> 00:16:08.269
Negative feedback is not always a bad thing.

00:16:08.429 --> 00:16:13.389
Some of us want the negative feedback so we know what we need to work on, just like you did.

00:16:13.629 --> 00:16:20.029
I mean, and get going getting it out from other people that don't know exactly who you are is probably the best.

00:16:20.350 --> 00:16:26.029
Because like you can go to a family member or a friend or something like that, and they'll go through like, oh, this is great.

00:16:26.189 --> 00:16:28.990
I was like, no, that's not what I want to hear.

00:16:29.069 --> 00:16:31.629
I want to hear what's bad about it so I can fix it.

00:16:31.870 --> 00:16:34.269
But you know, they're gonna want to save your feelings or whatever.

00:16:34.350 --> 00:16:39.549
So being able to I turn around behind to the guy behind you and say, Hey, what do you think of this?

00:16:40.110 --> 00:16:41.949
I did that with my podcast cover.

00:16:42.029 --> 00:16:50.669
I I was at a coffee shop and the the woman behind me was you know was in line and I bought her coffee and turned around and said, What do you think of this podcast cover?

00:16:51.549 --> 00:16:51.870
Yeah.

00:16:52.110 --> 00:16:52.990
Oh, that's great.

00:16:53.230 --> 00:16:54.990
Yeah, and and it was it was great.

00:16:55.149 --> 00:16:56.189
It's great information.

00:16:56.429 --> 00:17:08.750
Don't take it so hard that you're getting negative feedback because then eventually after you make these fixes, after you make these these solve these problems that you've had with the negative things, it starts to work itself out.

00:17:08.910 --> 00:17:16.670
And those last two focus groups were the the the kind of final things like, okay, I finally fixed everything that needs to fix, I have a viable product that I could put out there.

00:17:17.870 --> 00:17:19.390
Yeah, yeah, they were powerful.

00:17:20.190 --> 00:17:22.110
And silly but not silly.

00:17:22.190 --> 00:17:22.829
That's what I call it.

00:17:22.910 --> 00:17:23.549
Yes, it's silly.

00:17:23.630 --> 00:17:25.309
I'm a silly guy, so what can I say?

00:17:25.950 --> 00:17:37.230
But even though it seemed silly to you at first, getting over that that thought of it being silly and actually holding these focus groups again and again and again to get to the where it need to be.

00:17:37.470 --> 00:17:41.470
If you did if you thought it was so silly that you didn't do it, it never would have happened.

00:17:42.350 --> 00:17:46.190
Oh yeah, my business would have absolutely failed if I did not host those focus groups.

00:17:46.350 --> 00:17:46.990
Yeah.

00:17:47.789 --> 00:17:48.190
All right.

00:17:48.430 --> 00:17:48.990
That's awesome.

00:17:49.150 --> 00:17:49.789
Thank you so much.

00:17:50.029 --> 00:17:53.150
Okay, so I have a question I like to ask all my guests.

00:17:53.470 --> 00:17:56.269
Now you've been on a few podcasts, and you have a podcast too.

00:17:56.670 --> 00:17:59.309
So you always hear like, oh, what's your biggest pitfall?

00:17:59.470 --> 00:18:00.509
What's your biggest problem?

00:18:00.670 --> 00:18:01.710
Blah, blah, blah, blah.

00:18:01.870 --> 00:18:03.630
So I like to put a little bit of a spin on that.

00:18:03.710 --> 00:18:08.590
And I like to ask, what was your biggest pitfall that you're most proud of?

00:18:08.830 --> 00:18:16.190
It's a pitfall that happened that was like, I'm glad I had this pitfall because if I didn't, this outcome never would have happened.

00:18:16.269 --> 00:18:17.630
Now we talked about your planner.

00:18:17.710 --> 00:18:20.269
Do you have anything else besides that you could talk about?

00:18:21.790 --> 00:18:24.509
Yeah, probably like big pitfall.

00:18:24.670 --> 00:18:27.630
So with my real estate, I'm well, I'm gonna add two things here.

00:18:27.790 --> 00:18:31.630
With my planner, I uh struggled with that for years.

00:18:31.870 --> 00:18:34.990
Like it did not turn a profit for about two years.

00:18:35.310 --> 00:18:41.390
And one, I'm glad I had the big fire inside of me, otherwise I just would have quit and tried to launch an easier product.

00:18:41.630 --> 00:18:44.830
But uh that was so necessary for me.

00:18:44.990 --> 00:18:47.950
I was young, I was like 23 years old.

00:18:48.190 --> 00:18:55.950
I needed to struggle for years to let some bad habits die to just get more focused on my life.

00:18:56.110 --> 00:18:57.230
It fully challenged me.

00:18:57.310 --> 00:18:58.190
It fully challenged me.

00:18:58.269 --> 00:19:00.509
And because of that, I I had to start getting healthier habits.

00:19:00.590 --> 00:19:05.710
I had to stop hanging out with certain people because they were getting in the way of me creating the life I wanted.

00:19:05.790 --> 00:19:08.990
I I needed to get more disciplined, I couldn't stay up till 2 a.m.

00:19:09.230 --> 00:19:13.230
I needed to organize my life so I could create the right structure to run my business.

00:19:13.390 --> 00:19:20.830
So I would say that, but um kind of made when I started buying rental properties.

00:19:20.910 --> 00:19:24.670
I knew absolutely nothing about how to repair them.

00:19:24.990 --> 00:19:29.550
And my plan was just I'm gonna pray that I don't have problems.

00:19:29.870 --> 00:19:32.269
And that didn't happen.

00:19:32.430 --> 00:19:34.750
Well, I did pray, but I had tons of problems.

00:19:34.830 --> 00:19:38.830
Yeah, uh, small problems, big problems, uh, air conditioners break.

00:19:38.910 --> 00:19:46.509
I've had apartments flood, I've had three times a tree get struck by lightning and land on a roof of one of my properties during like a sunny day.

00:19:46.670 --> 00:19:50.750
Like they would call me saying a tree landed on the roof, and I would look outside like, how?

00:19:51.150 --> 00:19:52.750
Where's the storm?

00:19:52.910 --> 00:19:58.509
But uh the crazy thing though is like I was always wishing that I had this business with no problems, right?

00:19:58.750 --> 00:20:15.390
But after years of having lots of these, when I was finally buying one of my first bigger deals, so a 24-unit apartment building, I remember I was walking through that property, and I could look at each problem I saw and be like, okay, this here's a problem, it's gonna cost me this much, and I know how to handle it.

00:20:15.470 --> 00:20:17.310
And here's this, it'll this will need replace.

00:20:17.390 --> 00:20:18.750
I know exactly how much it's gonna cost.

00:20:18.830 --> 00:20:23.390
I have a written process so my assistant can get it all done without me even thinking about it.

00:20:23.630 --> 00:20:33.470
And somewhere in there, I realized that rather than me being given a business and rental properties with zero problems like I had wished for, I was given something so much better.

00:20:33.710 --> 00:20:36.430
I was actually taught how to be a landlord, right?

00:20:36.509 --> 00:20:46.110
Like those problems that I thought were gonna be the enemy of me ever being successful, those were the requirement for me learning how to actually run a business.

00:20:46.430 --> 00:20:48.670
So yeah, it was a pitfall.

00:20:48.750 --> 00:20:51.630
I went into it completely blind, but it forced me to learn really quick.

00:20:51.710 --> 00:20:55.790
And now I have learned a few things on how to handle problems as they arise.

00:20:56.110 --> 00:21:04.430
And uh, school believers, I want you to listen and pay close attention to that story because he did something that I like to call a pre-mortem.

00:21:05.150 --> 00:21:08.190
Instead of a post-mortem after the bad things have happened, you think about it.

00:21:08.269 --> 00:21:13.230
You do a pre-mortem where you walk through, you could do this with your business, you could do this with your book, you could do this with anything.

00:21:13.550 --> 00:21:18.670
But you walk through, okay, what are the problems that could happen when I do this thing?

00:21:19.550 --> 00:21:23.070
And that way, when you you know you come up with this list of things that could happen.

00:21:23.150 --> 00:21:26.190
Now, how do I get over these problems when they do happen?

00:21:26.430 --> 00:21:35.710
So now when you're going along your entrepreneur adventure and one of those problems come up, you already have a blueprint for how to get around that problem or get over the problem however you want to do it.

00:21:36.269 --> 00:21:43.470
So performing a pre-mortem in whatever you're doing can be a very crucial step for your entrepreneur adventure.

00:21:44.509 --> 00:21:45.790
Yeah, yeah, that's good.

00:21:46.350 --> 00:21:50.750
So, what I'd like to know here is you talked about habits, and habits are huge.

00:21:51.070 --> 00:21:53.390
Um, we've read many, many books about habits.

00:21:53.630 --> 00:21:55.230
How did you break some of these habits?

00:21:55.390 --> 00:22:03.790
Was there a specific routine that you did or something you looked out for when you knew your your had a habit that you wanted to break?

00:22:05.630 --> 00:22:13.230
So a big thing for me is I I'm gonna keep going back to this a lot, but I had this fire inside of me that I wanted to launch this business.

00:22:13.390 --> 00:22:20.509
And it was like as my after I launched my business, sales were coming in and people were getting incredible results.

00:22:20.590 --> 00:22:23.950
So there was enough like traction that I knew I could make this work.

00:22:24.110 --> 00:22:26.750
I just need to figure out how to turn a profit selling these things.

00:22:26.990 --> 00:22:32.509
But um it just became clear that those habits were getting in the way of me.

00:22:32.670 --> 00:22:44.509
Like if I'm gonna go out, if if I was young and I was gonna go out on the weekend and spend a bunch of money staying up late, drinking with friends, it was very clear that was gonna move me away from creating the successful life that I wanted.

00:22:44.750 --> 00:22:53.470
Or eating super unhealthy, not taking care of my body, and now I'm exhausted and taking naps in the middle of the day, not having any structure and staying up late.

00:22:53.710 --> 00:23:00.509
It yeah, I would say like probably how I learned what habits I should be doing is I wanted to go find people I.

00:23:00.990 --> 00:23:03.230
That I would have mod wanted to model, right?

00:23:03.470 --> 00:23:09.390
Um, one time a mentor of mine he told me, Jason, that the shortest distance between two points is a straight line, right?

00:23:09.550 --> 00:23:15.870
So whenever you want to accomplish something, the quickest way to do it is find someone who's already accomplished that and just ask them how they did it.

00:23:16.110 --> 00:23:17.790
Boom, there's your straight line.

00:23:18.029 --> 00:23:27.630
So that was like my mission for those two years of I need to find successful e-commerce business owners and ask them how they're running their business, ask them how they're living their life.

00:23:27.950 --> 00:23:37.630
And what I was really looking for when I was talking to those people is what are the successful behaviors that they're doing every single day that's leading to their successes, right?

00:23:37.790 --> 00:23:42.430
Do your successful behaviors lead to your successes, or your unsuccessful behaviors lead to your failures.

00:23:42.590 --> 00:23:48.990
So by having those conversations, it was easier for me to realize here's the successful behaviors that they're doing, that's leading to the successes.

00:23:49.150 --> 00:23:55.630
And it was also shined a light on like, well, here's the really unsuccessful behaviors I'm doing that's leading to my failures.

00:23:55.790 --> 00:23:57.870
And then I would I would keep a list.

00:23:58.029 --> 00:23:59.230
This is part of my planner.

00:23:59.310 --> 00:24:01.070
So that framework applied here.

00:24:01.230 --> 00:24:04.430
But as I recognize these successful behaviors, I kept a list.

00:24:04.590 --> 00:24:06.350
I make a scorecard for myself.

00:24:06.430 --> 00:24:12.509
It's their bookmark and their planner, but it's a scorecard of the 10 successful behaviors I want to do every single day.

00:24:12.750 --> 00:24:15.710
And every night I'll grade myself against that scorecard.

00:24:15.870 --> 00:24:18.110
How many of those successful behaviors did I do?

00:24:18.350 --> 00:24:20.910
If I did seven of the 10, I had a 70% day.

00:24:21.070 --> 00:24:28.990
And it's just a really easy way to hold yourself accountable to make sure you're doing the successful behaviors you need to the success that you want.

00:24:30.350 --> 00:24:31.790
I love the scorecard idea.

00:24:31.950 --> 00:24:32.830
That's fantastic.

00:24:33.070 --> 00:24:35.710
And that's in your that's in your uh that's in your planner, right?

00:24:35.870 --> 00:24:37.150
You have that in the planner.

00:24:37.390 --> 00:24:37.790
Correct.

00:24:37.870 --> 00:24:38.910
Yeah, their planner.

00:24:39.070 --> 00:24:40.110
So I've got one right here.

00:24:40.269 --> 00:24:44.029
People are watching this, but uh the planner comes with three of these.

00:24:44.110 --> 00:24:51.870
You don't need a fancy planner to do this, but it's kind of like a no-card sort of thing that breaks down 10 lines for you to have your successful behaviors.

00:24:51.950 --> 00:24:55.870
And if you're just listening along, you can come up with this for every goal I set.

00:24:55.950 --> 00:25:00.590
I want to figure out what's the successful behavior I need to do every day that'll bring me to that goal, right?

00:25:00.670 --> 00:25:02.509
My successful behaviors lead to my successes.

00:25:02.670 --> 00:25:05.150
So once I clarify these, I have my list of 10.

00:25:05.230 --> 00:25:14.990
This is their bookmark, but on the side of their daily page, there's 10 check marks so they can go through and check off which ones they did and then give themselves a grade.

00:25:15.550 --> 00:25:16.110
Absolutely.

00:25:16.190 --> 00:25:16.910
That's fantastic.

00:25:17.070 --> 00:25:19.630
Thank you so much for building that and coming up with that idea.

00:25:19.710 --> 00:25:20.830
That's fantastic.

00:25:21.150 --> 00:25:21.710
Thank you.

00:25:21.950 --> 00:25:27.630
All right, so um I want to hit a little bit on your accomplishments up to this point because you've had several.

00:25:27.790 --> 00:25:29.550
I'm looking at one right behind you there.

00:25:29.710 --> 00:25:31.630
We I just looked at one just a second ago.

00:25:31.950 --> 00:25:37.790
Tell me about your a little more about your book, because uh I always talk about accomplishments and our greatest accomplishments.

00:25:38.190 --> 00:25:43.150
Our kids or what family obviously is an accomplishment, but let's talk about the business side of that.

00:25:43.550 --> 00:25:45.310
Yeah, the business side of the book?

00:25:45.630 --> 00:25:47.230
Of the of our accomplishments.

00:25:47.390 --> 00:25:52.430
So, which is the book, the so I like I like kind of give me an idea about the book.

00:25:52.509 --> 00:25:54.029
I mean, dream driven, yes.

00:25:54.350 --> 00:25:55.070
Dream driven.

00:25:55.230 --> 00:26:01.710
So, dream driven, the subtitle is a step-by-step process to discover your perfect business idea and launch it this year.

00:26:01.950 --> 00:26:05.310
So it really walks people through uh three main things.

00:26:05.470 --> 00:26:11.790
One, figuring out the perfect business idea, one that'll light a fire inside of them to go out and overcome the challenges that'll arise.

00:26:11.950 --> 00:26:17.070
The second is how to validate it, that it's a winning idea before you go spend time and money launching it.

00:26:17.150 --> 00:26:20.110
And then the third is how to launch it this year.

00:26:20.350 --> 00:26:22.670
So that's kind of the layout of the book.

00:26:22.910 --> 00:26:26.350
It's got a lot of my own stories and lessons in there.

00:26:26.509 --> 00:26:38.430
I've had the privilege of working with various entrepreneurs over the past three years, people ranging from just getting started in their entrepreneurial journey to people who already have seven-figure businesses and are working on growing them.

00:26:38.590 --> 00:26:40.509
So there's lots of these lessons put in there.

00:26:40.670 --> 00:26:44.430
And you know, with having a podcast, you meet a ton of great people.

00:26:44.670 --> 00:26:56.350
So things that I've been able to learn or themes I've been able to see from these entrepreneurs and putting it into this book so it's a really clear roadmap for somebody figuring out how to make their business happen.

00:26:56.509 --> 00:27:07.390
And maybe this is gonna be a longer answer than you're looking for here, but just to explain the dream-driven concept is starting a business and you're looking for this perfect business idea.

00:27:07.550 --> 00:27:11.870
There are two routes that I believe you can take to finding this perfect business idea.

00:27:12.110 --> 00:27:16.910
The first one is what I call the easy money route, and the second is the dream-driven route.

00:27:17.070 --> 00:27:19.230
So the easy money route is what most people do.

00:27:19.310 --> 00:27:23.150
And like I was an entrepreneurship major in college, I would say that's what they taught.

00:27:23.230 --> 00:27:33.950
This easy money route is you you scour the market to find the perfect product or widget to sell that will earn you the most amount of money the easiest, right?

00:27:34.110 --> 00:27:36.269
And that's the question at the root of this foundation.

00:27:36.430 --> 00:27:39.950
What product or service will earn me the most amount of money the easiest?

00:27:40.190 --> 00:27:48.990
Now, the problem with this is if you use this as the foundation to launch your business, just like we were talking about earlier, there's no desire behind it.

00:27:49.230 --> 00:27:58.269
So if since the foundation is easy money, if either the easy or the money component disappear, you're just gonna quit and you're gonna go look for another business idea.

00:27:58.430 --> 00:28:01.070
And the reality is starting a business is hard.

00:28:01.310 --> 00:28:02.110
It's just hard.

00:28:02.269 --> 00:28:16.430
That it's very likely that at some point the easy component or the money component will disappear for a while, and then you're gonna jump ship to something easier, or that's gonna potentially pay you higher money, and you're probably just gonna jump ship from idea to idea to idea.

00:28:16.750 --> 00:28:22.910
The better route is the dream-driven approach, where you you search in your heart, what do you want to do with your life?

00:28:23.070 --> 00:28:36.590
And once you can answer that question, and the book gives them lots of exercises to really nail the clarity down on that, but once you understand what you want to do with your life, then you can create this business to be the means to make that dream of yours happen.

00:28:36.910 --> 00:28:53.630
So rather than scouring the market for this perfect product or widget to sell, I want people to scour their heart to figure out what do you want, what's gonna light a fire inside of you, because that's what's gonna give you the courage to push through all the challenges that that are basically guaranteed to arise as you're going.

00:28:54.509 --> 00:28:55.710
Exactly, exactly.

00:28:55.870 --> 00:29:11.870
And instead of looking for the money, and uh I do something similar too, I call it finding our zone of genius, the thing that really puts us in that flow state that that puts that fire in you that you could do something forever and not be tired of it because you love it so much.

00:29:12.029 --> 00:29:24.670
Like something happens called Einstein time, where it's like you feel like only 10 or 15 minutes go by, you look up, an hour has gone by, but you've accomplished so much in that amount of time, it's it's uncanny.

00:29:24.910 --> 00:29:25.310
Yeah.

00:29:25.550 --> 00:29:30.509
So and I I I do think like it makes it way more enjoyable, gives you the fire, the courage.

00:29:30.670 --> 00:29:32.590
But I don't want to tell people the money can't come.

00:29:32.750 --> 00:29:41.070
I think actually the money can come in greater abundance because you have there's a burning fire to making it happen about the money.

00:29:41.230 --> 00:29:46.990
There's like if somebody tells me what they want to do with their life is earn money, I would say they don't actually know the answer to the question.

00:29:47.150 --> 00:29:48.990
You don't actually know what you want to do with your life.

00:29:49.150 --> 00:29:56.029
If you don't know what you want to do with your life, then your answer is go earn money because money is as this conception that it can solve all your problems.

00:29:56.110 --> 00:29:57.310
But it's like, no, no, no.

00:29:57.470 --> 00:30:02.269
After you had all the money, if you got millions in the bank, you can live off the interest.

00:30:02.430 --> 00:30:04.110
What would you do with your life then?

00:30:04.269 --> 00:30:06.830
What business idea would you do just for fun?

00:30:06.990 --> 00:30:16.509
Probably that is gonna light the fire inside of you to make it happen and to do it in a really great way that your customers love and appreciate, and then the money will follow.

00:30:17.150 --> 00:30:17.630
Exactly.

00:30:17.710 --> 00:30:18.590
The money will fall.

00:30:18.750 --> 00:30:21.150
That's that's the one thing that you have to remember.

00:30:21.390 --> 00:30:23.630
If we're not gonna, it's it's a long game.

00:30:23.710 --> 00:30:27.710
You have to understand the money is going to be there, but it's not gonna be there tomorrow.

00:30:27.870 --> 00:30:29.630
And when the money comes, it comes.

00:30:29.950 --> 00:30:35.230
Because it's you know, it's there's a breaking point there where it just starts coming in and you still love what you're doing.

00:30:35.310 --> 00:30:38.110
The money is like kind of a side a side thing, you know.

00:30:38.190 --> 00:30:39.870
It's like, oh, I get paid to do this too?

00:30:40.029 --> 00:30:40.750
Oh, great.

00:30:40.990 --> 00:30:43.870
So that's kind of what I think of when I when I hear about that.

00:30:44.990 --> 00:30:45.630
That's good.

00:30:46.190 --> 00:30:54.350
So I what I like to know here is if you came across a brand new entrepreneur entrepreneur that's just getting started, what kind of advice would you give them?

00:30:54.430 --> 00:30:55.630
What steps would you have them take?

00:30:55.790 --> 00:31:01.870
I think we've already covered a couple of them already, when especially when it comes to your book, but let's kind of give them a a quick rundown.

00:31:02.350 --> 00:31:02.590
Yeah.

00:31:02.750 --> 00:31:07.790
So this would be somebody who already knows what they want to start and then they're looking for the first steps to get it started.

00:31:07.870 --> 00:31:09.150
Am I calling that correctly?

00:31:09.470 --> 00:31:13.390
So, first thing I would tell them is you got to go find the mentors to learn from.

00:31:13.550 --> 00:31:17.470
Uh, just like I talked about, the shortest distance between two points is a straight line, right?

00:31:17.710 --> 00:31:22.670
And in my book, I break down eight different ways to get in contact with these business owners.

00:31:22.750 --> 00:31:35.150
Because if you want to launch a podcast, for example, you I would make it your mission to go find successful podcasters who are have a business that you want to emulate and get in contact with them so you can figure out how they did it, did it.

00:31:35.230 --> 00:31:37.870
So when I'm looking for these mentors, I look for three things.

00:31:38.029 --> 00:31:39.630
I want them to be successful, right?

00:31:39.710 --> 00:31:41.710
I don't want to learn from somebody who's not successful.

00:31:41.870 --> 00:31:44.750
I want them to be in a similar business to what I want to do.

00:31:44.990 --> 00:31:46.269
Doesn't have to be the exact same.

00:31:46.350 --> 00:31:57.310
If you want to launch a podcast about cats, and I'm gonna talk to somebody who has a podcast about business, like similar enough, and then I don't, but I don't want the person to view me as competition, would be the third thing.

00:31:57.470 --> 00:32:04.190
Because if they're gonna view me as competition, they're not gonna share with me the actual trade, the best, their secret sauce, right?

00:32:04.430 --> 00:32:09.230
Now, depending on the industry, like podcasting, I can share with other podcasters as much as I want.

00:32:09.390 --> 00:32:10.509
There's enough to go around.

00:32:10.750 --> 00:32:11.630
Same with real estate.

00:32:11.710 --> 00:32:14.430
I've got tons of real estate investor friends in the area.

00:32:18.110 --> 00:32:24.350
Not all industries have that same opportunity, but I would want to find somebody who's not similar, uh, not competition.

00:32:24.910 --> 00:32:27.630
Couple ways I find these people though.

00:32:27.950 --> 00:32:31.790
Easiest way would be to reach out to people you already know, right?

00:32:31.950 --> 00:32:37.550
Friends, family, who do you know who's done something like you want to emulate, or who do you know who knows somebody?

00:32:37.790 --> 00:32:41.950
Maybe you've got an uncle who works in marketing who knows a ton of business owners.

00:32:42.190 --> 00:32:44.509
Ask them if they can connect you with somebody.

00:32:44.750 --> 00:32:48.269
If you exhaust that, then I cold call people.

00:32:48.430 --> 00:32:52.029
Lots of people are afraid of doing this, but I will cold call people.

00:32:52.190 --> 00:33:03.630
For example, maybe two years ago, there was this small mobile home park available for sale in our area, and I looked at buying it as an investment, and I knew nothing about mobile home parks.

00:33:03.790 --> 00:33:09.950
So I started calling all the other mobile home parks in our area, and I just asked them, can I speak to the owner?

00:33:10.190 --> 00:33:14.830
And many of them weren't helpful to me politely or not so politely.

00:33:14.910 --> 00:33:16.590
They just told me no, they're not gonna help me.

00:33:16.670 --> 00:33:21.950
But I was able to find a handful of these mobile home park owners that I cold-called that were extremely helpful.

00:33:22.029 --> 00:33:28.670
They were telling me, here's what you should look for, or I know the person who services that mobile home park, here's their cell number.

00:33:28.750 --> 00:33:31.070
You should call him, and they were so helpful.

00:33:31.230 --> 00:33:32.029
So I do that.

00:33:32.190 --> 00:33:36.830
I would look for also, you can find communities typically where these types of business owners hang out.

00:33:36.990 --> 00:33:42.029
Ideally, if they're in person, maybe there's like BI groups or marketing meetups.

00:33:42.190 --> 00:33:46.110
I I would try and meet them in person, but if it's not, then you can look online.

00:33:46.430 --> 00:33:52.590
Typically, if it's online, my strategy to connect with people, I'll go back to the example for the mobile home park.

00:33:52.750 --> 00:34:04.830
I found forums and Facebook groups that mobile home park owners were in, and I'd post a question, a genuine question that would be hard for me to find out, but they would know very quickly because they're in the space.

00:34:04.990 --> 00:34:13.309
I post a question, and if people respond to it, then the people who respond, I would send them a message and say, like, hey, thank you so much for helping me with that.

00:34:13.469 --> 00:34:16.909
Any chance you'd be willing to hop on a quick call with me for 10 to 15 minutes.

00:34:17.070 --> 00:34:17.949
I'm clueless.

00:34:18.110 --> 00:34:19.550
I just need some guidance.

00:34:19.789 --> 00:34:24.670
And you're if you put enough of these out there, you're gonna find people to jump.

00:34:24.750 --> 00:34:28.590
I'm gonna give one last strategy and then you can cut me off because I can go on this for a while.

00:34:28.670 --> 00:34:35.309
But um another great opportunity is look for businesses for sale, like the one that you'd want to start.

00:34:35.550 --> 00:34:49.469
For example, I a few years ago really wanted to start growing my email list for my e-commerce business, and I was weighing out like, do I wanna put in the work to start growing this on my own, or do I want to buy an email list and just tap into?

00:34:56.909 --> 00:35:01.949
Do I want to buy one like yours, shortcut the process, or do I want to start my own from scratch?

00:35:02.269 --> 00:35:11.149
And after talking with them, one, I realized I wanted to build mine from scratch, but I was able to learn a ton of great information on how to do it.

00:35:11.389 --> 00:35:24.909
And lots of times when you are looking at a business that's for sale, it often gives you the opportunity to sit down with the owner of that business, go through their profit and loss, through their balance sheet, line by line, and ask them, hey, how'd you get this?

00:35:25.069 --> 00:35:26.190
How'd you get this number so large?

00:35:26.269 --> 00:35:28.029
Or how'd you get these expenses so low?

00:35:28.190 --> 00:35:29.389
It's an incredible opportunity.

00:35:29.549 --> 00:35:36.909
Again, I would only do this if you're genuinely interested in put the potential of buying versus first starting your own.

00:35:37.149 --> 00:35:41.149
But it can be an incredible opportunity to meet people and learn from them.

00:35:41.309 --> 00:35:48.349
And you might find, I have found lots of rental properties that way and met learned a ton from the owners as I was buying them.

00:35:48.429 --> 00:35:50.750
So uh it can just be a really good opportunity.

00:35:50.829 --> 00:35:54.589
So that would be first place to start, regardless of the industry.

00:35:54.750 --> 00:35:57.149
Find someone who's already done it, ask them how they did it.

00:35:57.469 --> 00:35:58.429
All right, that's awesome.

00:35:58.509 --> 00:35:59.149
Thank you, Jason.

00:35:59.230 --> 00:36:01.949
We're gonna clip a lot of that out for the scoop of labors to listen to.

00:36:02.029 --> 00:36:03.869
That's uh some fantastic information.

00:36:03.949 --> 00:36:05.549
We'll make sure they get all of it.

00:36:05.789 --> 00:36:05.949
Okay.

00:36:06.349 --> 00:36:11.629
So I'd like to you have the book and you have are you still selling the uh the planner?

00:36:11.789 --> 00:36:12.109
Oh, yeah.

00:36:12.509 --> 00:36:14.190
How do we get a hold of these wonderful things?

00:36:14.269 --> 00:36:17.149
I want to I want to know, give them an opportunity there to get them.

00:36:17.629 --> 00:36:21.629
Yeah, so my planner is you can get it at goalcrazy.com.

00:36:21.710 --> 00:36:23.309
It's goal like a soccer goal.

00:36:23.389 --> 00:36:24.989
Don't go crazy, goal crazy.

00:36:25.149 --> 00:36:27.309
So goalcrazy.com or it's on Amazon.

00:36:27.389 --> 00:36:29.389
If you search goalcrazy planner, it'll come up.

00:36:29.549 --> 00:36:30.989
My book is called Dream Driven.

00:36:31.069 --> 00:36:34.109
Right now, the only place it's available is on Amazon.

00:36:35.069 --> 00:36:36.029
All right, fantastic.

00:36:36.190 --> 00:36:38.269
We'll actually have links to all that in the show notes.

00:36:38.349 --> 00:36:45.069
So in case you're driving or you can't get to it right now, uh, you can go back into the show notes and click on that and I'll go right to it.

00:36:45.710 --> 00:36:49.469
All right, so this is this is a tradition I have with all my guests.

00:36:49.629 --> 00:36:53.549
I'd like to know in the next six months, what goals do you have for yourself and your company?

00:36:53.629 --> 00:36:56.509
What are you looking at for the next six months for yourself, uh Jason?

00:36:56.750 --> 00:36:58.269
Yeah, 100 lives changed.

00:36:58.429 --> 00:36:59.629
I want to change 100 lives.

00:36:59.789 --> 00:37:11.629
Now, one of the big things that's behind that is when I had signed on with my publisher to write this book, I dropped all of my coaching clients just because I had to say no to something so I could say yes to this book.

00:37:11.869 --> 00:37:18.509
So now that my book has been out for a little over a month, I want to re-get that coaching program going.

00:37:18.750 --> 00:37:24.750
So I can, it's basically gonna be taking the exact stuff from the book and just guiding people through the process.

00:37:24.909 --> 00:37:29.949
But it's not like the book teaches just steps one through three, and then the coaching program would teach them four through ten.

00:37:30.190 --> 00:37:31.710
It's like, nope, everything is in the book.

00:37:31.869 --> 00:37:32.589
Everything's in there.

00:37:32.670 --> 00:37:33.710
You don't actually need me.

00:37:33.789 --> 00:37:40.190
But if you read the book and you're like, look, I want somebody to hold my hand and make sure I actually do this, I'm gonna have a coaching program for that.

00:37:40.269 --> 00:37:45.389
So to get that going, but I want to have 100 lives changed over the next six months.

00:37:45.710 --> 00:37:46.589
All right, fantastic.

00:37:46.670 --> 00:37:55.389
So what I'd like to do with you, Jason, is I'd actually like to follow up with you in six months, see how many lives that you've changed, and hopefully you got a few coaching clients too.

00:37:55.469 --> 00:37:56.509
Would that be okay with you?

00:37:56.750 --> 00:37:57.549
I would love that.

00:37:57.629 --> 00:37:57.949
Yeah.

00:37:58.190 --> 00:37:58.750
All right, awesome.

00:37:58.829 --> 00:38:03.789
Because you're not just accountable to me now, you're accountable to all my screw believers that's listening to this podcast, okay?

00:38:04.029 --> 00:38:05.389
Yeah, I think that's great.

00:38:05.629 --> 00:38:06.909
All right, all right, Jason.

00:38:06.989 --> 00:38:07.949
This is your time to shine.

00:38:08.029 --> 00:38:09.149
How do we get a hold of you?

00:38:09.309 --> 00:38:12.269
How do we find out more about you and all that good stuff?

00:38:12.349 --> 00:38:14.429
Okay, ready, set, go.

00:38:14.989 --> 00:38:18.269
Yes, goalcrazy.com is gonna be the best place to go.

00:38:18.429 --> 00:38:21.549
I do have a podcast which is also called Goal Crazy.

00:38:21.789 --> 00:38:29.869
But for people who are curious about starting a business and they're working to find what's gonna be that perfect business idea that'll light the fire inside of them.

00:38:30.029 --> 00:38:32.109
I put together a free course on my website.

00:38:32.190 --> 00:38:38.509
If you go to goalcrazy.com slash idea, it'll help you clarify that perfect business idea for you.

00:38:38.589 --> 00:38:43.309
That'll give you the drive, the motivation to push through the challenges and make it happen.

00:38:44.109 --> 00:38:44.909
All right, Jason.

00:38:45.069 --> 00:38:45.469
Awesome.

00:38:45.549 --> 00:38:46.269
Thank you so so much.

00:38:46.349 --> 00:38:48.029
We'll have that link in the show notes as well.

00:38:48.829 --> 00:38:50.349
Jason, this has been an absolute blast.

00:38:50.429 --> 00:38:55.309
I love when two car salesmen get together and just go off crazy because it makes it such a great conversation.

00:38:55.949 --> 00:38:56.509
Absolutely.

00:38:56.589 --> 00:38:57.309
It's been fun.

00:38:57.549 --> 00:38:57.949
All right.

00:38:58.269 --> 00:38:59.389
All right, Jason, thank you so much.

00:38:59.469 --> 00:39:01.710
All right, school believers, make sure you stay tuned for the wrap-up.

00:39:01.869 --> 00:39:02.909
All right, everybody, thank you.

00:39:03.069 --> 00:39:03.629
Bye-bye.

00:39:06.909 --> 00:39:08.429
All right, school believers.

00:39:08.670 --> 00:39:10.589
What a great episode with Jason.

00:39:10.670 --> 00:39:14.349
I love talking to him and listening to everything he had to say.

00:39:14.589 --> 00:39:19.869
A lot of great points in here, but I do have two major takeaways I want to make sure you're paying attention to.

00:39:20.349 --> 00:39:24.670
The fire inside you is worth more than any golden ticket.

00:39:24.909 --> 00:39:30.670
Don't stay trapped in comfort, someone else's dream, just for the paycheck.

00:39:30.909 --> 00:39:38.750
The moment you choose passion over security, you unlock a version of yourself that no salary could ever buy.

00:39:39.309 --> 00:39:44.909
And that's because when we get into our entrepreneur adventure and we know it's something we love so much.

00:39:46.670 --> 00:39:55.469
The feeling that we get for helping other people with what our zone of genius is outweighs any amount of money that you can get.

00:39:56.029 --> 00:39:58.909
And don't live somebody else's dream.

00:39:59.069 --> 00:40:03.949
You're working for somebody else, you're working and helping them their dream.

00:40:04.109 --> 00:40:18.269
But if you have a dream that you want to do, something that you want to be in your life, unlock that version of yourself and know what it's like to cut your own paycheck with your name, your problems, or your professors.

00:40:19.389 --> 00:40:26.349
Every flooded apartment, every brutally honest focused group, every failed life is the universe working to get to.

00:40:27.069 --> 00:40:31.869
It's the universe training to become the person who can actually handle this test.

00:40:32.349 --> 00:40:38.349
And that's when we talk about failure to be something that teaches us to or the next thing to do.

00:40:38.829 --> 00:40:42.589
But a lot of teachers that handle this would actually have this.

00:40:46.109 --> 00:40:54.190
Remembering back on the situations that we were before, always help us out when we come across as something good and bad.

00:40:54.509 --> 00:40:59.549
So always remember when we have these failures, it's not bad.

00:40:59.710 --> 00:41:03.309
It's not people pointing at you saying this is bad for you.

00:41:03.549 --> 00:41:11.789
It's actually a learning opportunity, as cliche as it sounds, it's a learning opportunity to handle success.

00:41:12.109 --> 00:41:13.629
So always keep that in mind.

00:41:13.789 --> 00:41:19.230
And with that, I want to say thank you, Scooby Leavers, for another great episode, and I will see you in two weeks.

00:41:19.389 --> 00:41:20.509
Goodbye, everybody.

00:41:22.029 --> 00:41:24.109
And there you have it, future entrepreneurs.

00:41:24.269 --> 00:41:27.710
We've taken a vital step on the journey across the start line.

00:41:27.949 --> 00:41:32.670
Remember, every great business begins with a single idea and the courage to pursue it.

00:41:32.750 --> 00:41:35.710
And you've already shown that courage just by being here today.

00:41:35.869 --> 00:41:40.029
That's a wrap up this episode of the Undiscovered Entrepreneur Get Across the Start Line.

00:41:40.190 --> 00:41:44.269
I want you to reflect on the path we have to recognize the four hurdles of stock.

00:41:44.429 --> 00:41:46.429
Is it a poster syndrome holding you back?

00:41:46.589 --> 00:41:49.069
Is it perfectionism failure or fear?

00:41:49.389 --> 00:41:53.230
Identifying which one affects you the most is the key to unlocking your momentum.

00:41:53.309 --> 00:41:57.069
But here's the real secret the hurdles are not in the way, they are the way.

00:41:57.309 --> 00:42:02.190
Every time you clear one, you're building the exact strength you need for your journey ahead.

00:42:02.349 --> 00:42:06.909
Until our next episode, keep pushing, keep dreaming, and keep jumping over those hurdles.

00:42:07.149 --> 00:42:09.710
It's a scoop, your guide across the start line.

00:42:09.789 --> 00:42:11.230
Remember, your future is waiting.

00:42:11.389 --> 00:42:14.829
I can, I am, I will, and I'm doing it today.
